One of my first posts was titled, “The First Three Days.” 3 months later, and we’re at the LAST 3 days. We officially move into our new house this Saturday, after putting all we have into its renovation (physically, mentally, emotionally, financially…). It has been a journey, but I am so happy and proud of the work that Tracy and I have done, and the fact that we made it through this process with our marriage intact.
I will be excited to be in the new house. But, I can’t lie, I’m starting to feel a little nostalgic about our old house. After all, it was my first house. I bought it when I was single and had barely started my career and could barely afford a house. I cried the first time I walked into it after closing because I was so happy. I slept on the living room floor for a week before I was able to move my stuff in, even though I could have stayed at my old place in a bed. It was the first time I got to decorate, however I wanted. I have a lot of fond memories of 616 E. Brockton, and I will miss it a little. Here’s a little look back at the Brockton house before we get into this week’s update:
Ok, that’s enough of my trip down Memory Lane. Let’s look at our new, almost done house!
This weekend, we were able to spend three full days finishing up things around the house because of the holiday.
SATURDAY
I spent most of the day making last minute shopping trips, and doing some little things around the house (cleaning the bathrooms, setting up bedframes, putting together a headboard, putting together some furniture, etc.)
Tracy spent his whole day putting the granite countertops in the kitchen, and installing the vanity in the downstairs bathroom. His Dad came over to help again, and spent 11 hours at the house helping Tracy get this stuff done. We are so grateful for all of the help we’ve had from our Dads on this project!

SUNDAY
I worked on painting a Craigslist-find headboard for one of the guest rooms, and painting my breakfast table dining chairs (also a Craigslist find). Tracy worked on installing window blinds, painting the stairway and linen closet, and prepping the Family Room for painting (the LAST room that has to be painted!)

MONDAY
I spent most of the day epoxying our bathtub to try to cover up some chips and discoloration. This is what I took away from the experience:
1) Read the directions, especially the one about ventilation and only spending a short amount of time in the room before taking a break
2) If your tub is not AWFUL, don’t try to fix it. I think it ended up looking OK, but only time will tell how it holds up to being used. In hindsight, I should have left the tub as is.
Oh, well, maybe the bathroom renovation will come sooner than we thought… 🙂
Tracy spent half of the day finishing the prep on the Family Room and painting the celing and trim. The other half of the day, he and our friend Maurice moved some furniture (Dining Room and Bedroom dressers) back into the house.

Dining Chairs (I am in the process of reupholstering the old chairs.)
Before/After pics and “how-to” to be in a future post)
Tomorrow, our couches are being delivered and Tracy is painting the Family Room. After that, our home will be “move-in ready.” Which is good, because we’re moving in on Saturday, ready or not!
A roundup of Before and After pics to come next week after furniture is in place.
